Nene Leakes feels like she is out growing her role on 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' and is readying for an exit...
With her acting career taking off and a dream of hosting her own talk show, NeNe Leakes said her reality TV days may be coming to an end.
“I can’t continue to be a housewife,” the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star told The New York Post. “At some point, I have to back out.”
NeNe is currently starring in two scripted TV series, “Glee” and the controversial sitcom “The New Normal.” While she’s prepping to depart from “RHOA” eventually, she did participate in season 5 of the Bravo hit show.
With the rising criticism of reality shows that perpetuate negative stereotypes and sometimes highlight violence, NeNe doesn’t doubt that being affiliated with the genre may be holding her back.
“Just the thought of me being a ‘Housewife,’ [TV execs] would probably say, ‘Hmmm. We may not want to use her.’ Just the whole persona of being a housewife: the cattiness and the bitchiness and the fighting, people see you as that is who you are,” she said.
NeNe hasn’t kissed “RHOA” good-bye yet, but she is working on other projects, including a shoe line, to help sustain her and her brand when that day comes.
At the top of her list is hosting her own talk show...
“Whatever the topic is, I feel I could talk about anything: politics, men, shoes … anything....I wouldn’t want to do a ‘Maury Povich’ show. Baby daddy! Who’s your daddy? Who’s your mama? I wouldn’t want to do that kind of show....” she said, on what kind of talk show show she wouldn't want to do.
"...It’s just a matter of time,” she said. “I am here now because I am supposed to be here, and I guess when it is my time to cross over there, I will be over there. I am not religious, but I am spiritual, honey. My day is coming!”
Will RHOA be able to survive without its most famed character?
